Karl Marx--the father of Communism and Socialism identified bourgeoisie and proletariat as two classes in a capitalist society.

According to Marx, the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. The class struggle is between the two classes--the oppressor and oppressed. In the ancient times there was a struggle between master and slave. Later, in feudal society there was a struggle between serfs and lords. Now,in capitalist Society there is the struggle between the Bourgeoisie (Rich or haves) and Proletariat (Poor or Workers or Have Not's). According to Marx, the bourgeoisie is exploiting the proletariat and the sweat of proletariat goes into the pockets of bourgeoisie.
