Swami's father was very wise. To test Swami he handed him a letter stating that it was against his teacher and Swami should hand it to the Headmaster.

In order to prove his allegations true Swami misbehaved with Samuel and got severely caned. Feeling justified he then confidently strode to the Headmaster's room to hand him the letter. There he came to know that the headmaster was on a long leave and Samuel was the acting headmaster. This made Swami filled with horror, fear, shame and remorse as he left school.
