hey mate,
the chipko movement was the chipko andolan originated from an incident in a remote village called reni in garhwal. High up in Himalayas in the early 1970 the people of the village did not want this forest to be cut down because it would have spoilt their healthy environment one day when the men folk of the village were out for work the contractor workers came in forest to cut down the trees in the absence of man, the women of the village reached the forest quickly and class the tree trunk with their arms preventing the workers from cutting down the trees the forest trees were the save the chipko andolan quickly spread across all communities and help in the conservation of forest hence it was not initiated by anyone but the nature loving people who knew the importance of environment.
