When the British came to Begal in 1797/ they introduced the system of Permanent Settlement. It meant that prices of crops and daily used items will never ever change. But then, the kings, who were subordinates to the British, began taking extra profits out of the Policy and were becoming richer than the British. So, they cancelled the policy of Permanent Settlement.
