Ghazal was originally an Arabic form of poetry and is centuries old, older than Islam (5th/6th century). Gradually it spread to other languages and countries. Rumi, a 12th century mystic poet has written Persian Ghazals and probably the first GhazalGo (People who say Ghazals. A Ghazal is always ‘said’ even when it is written.) to become immensely popular. He traveled widely and spread the art of Ghazal to other parts of South Asia
