Answer: Otto Blathy, Miksa Deri, and Karoly Zipernowsky invented the first transformer. However, this device was quite basic and wasn't suited for commercial applications.The first commercial transformer was made in 1885 by William Stanley. He worked for Westinghouse and his design was based on the work of the Ganz Company. However, even this transformer was not simple to use. It was left to Shallenberger, Stanley, Westinghouse and Albert Schmid to make a transformer which was not bulky and was fairly simple to use.
