In 1901 powered vacuum cleaners using suction were invented independently by British engineer Hubert Cecil Booth and American inventor David T. Kenney. Booth also may have coined the word "vacuum cleaner".

The vacuum cleaner was invented by Hubert Cecil Booth.
Hubert Cecil Booth was a British engineer. He discovered vacuum cleaner on August 30, 1901. He was born on 4th July 1871 , in Gloucester, United Kingdom. He had one child named Rupert Francis Cecil. He got educated in City and Guilds of London Institute. He died on 14 January 1955 in Croydon, United Kingdom.
