He was the Austrian crown prince.
He went to Herzegovina the capital of Serbia with his wife Isabella.There he and his wife were assassinated by a serbian lad.So Austria sent an ultimatum to Serbia with humiliating terms.When Serbia ignored the ultimatum.So Serbia declared war on Austria on Huly 28 1914 which led to the outbreak of the war

Archduke Franz Ferdinand was price of Austria and when he was murdered by a Siberian there was a lot of anger filled which led to the World war 1.
