Born in 304 B.C. Samrat Ashoka (also known as SamraatChakravartin, Devānāmpriya,Priyadarshi, Samrat Ashoka, Asoka,Ashoka Maurya) was the grandson of Chandragupta Maurya.Ashoka was born to the Mauryan emperor, Bindusara and a relatively lower ranked wife, Dharmā (or Dhammā). Ashoka became a great emperor despite having a physical appearance that was unfavorable to his father.

ashok was a braveheart who will never be born again in the rich land of India, for India has rarely been gifted by  bravemen like him, who never knew what failure meant. Ashok was born in patliputra and faced a lot of difficulties since his birth itself. Although he had many enemies(most of them were his own brothers) he never gave up and finally defeated all his brothers to acquire the throne. In his childhood he had been  a gentle yet brave boy but as he grew up in an environment filled with hatred and envious brothers, he slowly transformed into an agressive ruler. He was very disheartened after his guru Chanakya's death and his mother's death filled him with such great a pain and agony that he was keen on seeking revenge and fulfilling his guru's vision of establishing an all- India empire. He indeed conquered a lot of parts of the Indian subcontinent. He is best remembered for his kalinga war, after which he underwent a great transformation in his character and adopted 'dhamma' and converted into a Buddhist. He was deeply grieved after the kalinga war, which claimed a lot of lives and vowed to leave the path of war and bloodshed forever. That is why, historians remember him not only as a brave ruler, but also as the one who transformed himself into a kind ruler. The ashok chakra in the Indian flag is also named after him and his famous quote,' Jai Janani' is still an inspiration for all bravehearts and soldiers of India
