Ambikagiri Raichoudhury is known as "Assam Kesari" (The lion of Assam) because of his firebrand nationalist character. He was the President of Assam Sahitya Sabha in 1950.

He was a nationalist and an Assamese poet.
He was also a patriot, playwright and a poetwho was very active during India's Indepence movement.
He took an active part in the Independence Movement for India. He got imprisoned by the British due to his activities at the time.
He is also the founder of "Axom Jaatiyo Mohaaxobhaa" or the Assam National Congress and the "Axom Xongrikhini Xobhaa" or the Assam Preservation Council.
