Ishwar Chand Gupta, the famous Bengali poet and writer was known as Vidyabanik. He was born in Baidya family in 1859 in Kolkata, Bengal.

He brought a revolution in Bengali poetry. Human being rather than supernatural powers became the theme of his poetry. Initially he opposed the reforms but later became the champion of women education and widow remarriage.
