Channa is the charioteer of Prince Siddhartha. However , he is also his friend, guide, and philosopher too. Wherever the Prince goes, Chana accompanied him. Chana would always be found with the Prince.
Explanation:
- Channa is both King Shuddhodana and Prince Siddhartha's obedient servant. Two times with the Prince, the King ordered that he visit the city. Each time Channa obeyed him and honestly fulfilled his job. Channa obeys him even during his visit to the city.Whatever the Prince Siddhartha asked Channa, he would answer it intelligently. Whenever the Prince Siddharta asks him to return to the palace, Channa obeys him willingly.
- Channa is very clever and very well understands the realities of life. The Prince asks him a whole host of questions about sickness, death, old age identity and this world. Channa responds to them carefully and rightly. So, the Prince is happy with him. He has a knowledge of human life and the causes for human sufferings. Channa serves the king as a true guide. Therefore the Prince also regards him most.
- The role of Channa in the poem is very important. Channa's position in the poem is extremely significant. Channa guides the Prince with incredible integrity and wisdom. No other man could have done so.The Prince decided to leave the world and relieve man from pain. This epic should have been another thing without Channa. Hence, Channa is this epic's most significant character.
