Devi Sita is believed to be human incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess of Wealth. She is the wife of Shri Ram, the human incarnation of Lord Narayan.

She was the daughter of Bhudevi, and was adopted by king of Mithila, Rajrishi Janak. Therefore, she is also called Janaki.

She was known for her self sacrifice. Ravana kidnapped her. Shri Ram, with help other Hanuman, and others, killed him and rescued her.

She is the mother of Lava and Kusa.
