my opinion both are slightly above average performers, but my subjective choice between the two would be Vijay. I feel it does not necessarily make him a better actor, but his choice of scripts / characters have been better than Ajith. Vijay seems to be more versatile in as much as in comedy, action, style and dancing and generally follow a failproof commercial formula of the earlier era Rajinikanth movies.

I consider both Vikram and Suriya better actors than either Vijay or Ajith, but after hitting a purple patch both of them seem to have lost the plot and fallen way behind in their choice of scripts. I will on anyday settle for a film featuring Dhanush, Karthi or Vijay Sethupathi as they invariably deliver high quality enjoyable performances.
