Frank knows Taplow. This is because Frank was a teacher in the same school that Taplow was a student. He envied all the students including Taplow because they hold Mr Crocker-Harris in high esteem and fear. Since Mr Crocker-Harris did not arrive at the specified time to check if Taplow had done the work assigned to him, Frank suggested that he leave. But, Taplow did not do so out of fear that Mr Crocker-Harris might follow him home. Frank also encourages Taplow to voice his views about Mr Crocker-Harris and also imitate him.
