In the short story, Patol Babu- Filmstar, Satyajit Ray tries to explain the importance of dedication and commitment towards whatever a person does. In the story, Patol Babu, a seasoned theatre actor finds himself in a state of disappointment, when he comes to know that the role offered to him in the movie is a small one, and that too with a single dialogue.
The initial excitement slowly starts to wear off, and that is when he remembers Pakrashi’s words. Pakrashi was Patol Babu’s mentor in his initial struggling days. He had said, that a role, however big or small, should be seen with the same importance…that of a big one. It should be given the same amount of commitment, practice and dedication.
It’s a lesson, not just for Patol Babu, but also for each one of us, to take work as worship, though it be a small one.
