Gollum, also known as Sméagol (OE, pron. [ˈsmæ͡ɑːɣoɫ]), was acreature (originally a Stoorish Hobbit) who bore the One Ring. He lived in the Misty Mountains for most of his life. In T.A. 2941 he lost the Ring to BilboBaggins.

Gollum is a slimy, skinny creature living in the middle of an underground lake underneath the Misty Mountains. Tolkien describes him, he is "dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face". He also punctuates his whispering with noisy gulping swallows, hence the name, "Gollum."
