In the play ‘The Dear Departed’, Jimmy is introduced to the readers as the son of Mr and Mrs Jordan. However, he does not make his presence anywhere in the play.

A reference is however made about him by Mrs Jordan. This is done intentionally so that the Jordans can take possession of Mr Abel’s (Jimmy’s grandfather) gold watch. They claim that Mr Abel had left the watch to Jimmy in his will. The Jordan couple do this so that the Slater family will not be able to lay their hands on the watch.
