Answer:

Sir Alexander Cunningham

Explanation:

Sir Alexander Cunningham (1814-1893) had been posted as a British Army officer to work with the Bengal Engineers when he was just 19. But today he is more remembered as ‘Father of Indian Archaeology’ as he began to take keen interest in Indian history, monuments and inscriptions. He was appointed the first Director-General of the Archaeological Survey of India in 1861 upon retirement from the Army.
