“The Renunciation”, is the story written by Rabindranath Tagore. In this story, Hemanta married Kusum who belonged to the lower caste. It was the time caste-ism prevailed well above everything and nobody could do much and if at all there were some, they were just handful.

Hemanta’s father refused to accept Kusum as she belonged to a lower case, but Hemanta was determined to live with Kusum as he felt love is more important than caste for marriage.

His father had asked him to renounce Kusum and on refusing to do so, then his father asked him to renounce too.
