There isn't anything mentioned about Marquess and Montferrat but in the play there is something mentioned about Marquess and Montferrat, it is said that, Portia first encounters Bassanio when he met her with Marquess and Montferrat.

Here is a clue which Shakespeare has given to the readers that Marquess and Montferrat are the friends of Bassanio earlier and he used to stay with them.

Extra Information:

Who is Bassanio?

In the play "The Merchant of Venice" written by "William Shakespeare", Bassanio was a Venitian and Antonio's best friénd, who was helped by Antonio to reach Belmont and woo Portia.
