Most of the times, new ideas are about filling a gap, solving a problem, improving something or creating some stuff that will make our life easier / better / safer / etc... for you and other people.
Somebody else may have noticed the same problem, need, wish to make things better that triggered your idea. Maybe much sooner, because they lived in another environment where these things were much more noticeable.
Don't be discouraged though: ideas are nothing without execution. And there are so many well but not brilliantly executed ideas out there, that are just waiting for the next competitive innovation (think about all the online project management systems).
