Mir Jumla was born in Iran, the son of an oil merchant.[2] In his early age Mir Jumla found a job of a clerk under a diamond merchant who had connections with the Kingdom of Golkonda in Southern India[2] (near present day city of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India). The region was famous for its diamond mines. Later he came to India and started his own diamond business. He got involved in maritime commercial endeavours and achieved success.

Mir Jumal was a rich diamond merchant who later rose to fame after becoming the "WAZIR" of the Golconda sultan Abdullah qutub shah. His fame and power increased so much that he was invited by shahjahan to Delhi. Later he developed a close proximity to Aurangzeb. They later appointed him as a subahadar of Bengal in 1660 -1663
