In a monarchy, a king or queen is Head of State. The British Monarchyis known as a constitutional monarchy. This means that, while The Sovereign is Head of State, the ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament.
Or in simpler words,A monarchy is a form of government in which a group, generally a family representing a dynasty, embodies the country's national identity and its head, the monarch, exercises the role of sovereignty. The actual power of the monarch may vary from purely symbolic, to partial and restricted, to completely autocratic.
Some examples of this are the UK, Netherlands, Spainand Sweden. Monarchs in other countries have more power, for example in Saudi Arabia.
