Shri Gulzari Lal Nanda was appointed by the then President of India Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as an interim acting Prime Minister on May 27′ 1964 due to the sudden demise of Late Pt.Jawahar Lal Nehru Who was the first Prime Minister of India… Shri Gulzari Lal Nanda held the office of the Prime Minister of India for 13 days after which Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri was appointed as the Prime Minister of India on June 9′th 1964… so technically speaking Shri Gulzari Lal Nanda was the second Prime Minister of India but Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri is regarded asthe second Prime Minister of India.
