Pandita Ramabai was a woman who championed the cause of women's education.

She herself never attended school and learnt to read and write at home. Because she could read and write Sanskrit, she was given the title of "Pandita".

She established a mission in Khedgaon (Pune) in 1898. Widows and downtrodden women came here to be educated and become independent.
