Rani Chennamma popularly known as Kittur Chennamma was born on 23 October 1778. She was the queen of the princely state Kittur which is located in present day Karnataka. She was the first female ruler who rebelled against the British East India Company in 1824 in an attempt to retain Indian rule over her region.
