During the time before the Kargil War, both India and Pakistan had a sort of informal agreement that no one would reach to the pickets and bunkers located in the high hills of Kargil during winters. This was very well respected by both sides until the winters of 1999.

The shepherds located in the hills who were out with their livestock spotted some men carrying guns and ammunition but didn’t had any uniform or insignia. Surprised as to who these men are, shepherds reported this matter to Indian Armed Forces. In quick response, India sent a patrol led by Capt. Saurabh Kalia to check out what was going on but they never came back. Later, another unit was sent in order to look for Capt. Kalia and his comrades. Search party found Capt. and his men’s bodies along with that was the most inhumane thing that anyone could possibly imagine to do with another human being as per sources and wikipedia “ examinations revealed that the Pakistanis had tortured their prisoners by: burning their bodies with cigarettes, piercing the ear-drums with hot rods, puncturing eyes before removing them, breaking most of their teeth and bones, fracturing their skulls, cutting the lips, chipping of nose, chopping off limbs and private organs of the soldiers, and finally shooting them dead, as evidenced by bullet wounds to the temple. The post-mortem also confirmed the injuries were inflicted ante-mortem (before death).”

Now, India got into a full fight mode with Pakistani intruders but we were too late, during all this time Pakistanis had already captured the posts located on the high altitude giving them an edge over Indians. Now for those of you who don’t know, even if Pakistanis would just throw rocks from such altitude rather than bullets it practically will have no difference as both of them will be fatal.

Every situation was against Indians but yet we fought, we lost fine men but at the end we emerged as victorious. Pakistan was badly slammed by US for their actions in Kargil and was so embarrassing that they refused to even admit that they had any role in it,blaming it on mujahideens and even refused to take back the bodies of their slain soldiers.

Pakistani army angered by inaction of govt. staged a coup later and installed Gen. Parvez Musharraf as the leader. Just last year, Pak army admitted their role in Kargil war.

Since then, India has continued to keep control of Kargil and now has permanent bunkers in higher altitude.
