AtharvaMalji: yeah actually opens the eyes of superstitious people who curse the mother for giving birth to a girl, no offence in any means by the way. our traditions need some science.
Kuldeepnehra: It's obvious

to say it in simple terms in HUMANS, a male is responsible for the sex of the child.

how you may ask, well humans contains 23 pairs of chromosomes out of which 22 are autosomes and 1 is a sex chromosomes namely X and Y.

females have both XX pair of sex chromosomes and males have XY pairs of sex chromosomes.

hence the sex of child is determined by the male in humans.

HOPE IT HELPS YOU OUT Reikimita...

The female has XX Chromosomes and in female gametes there there will be only X Chromosome.

The male has XY Chromosomes and in male gametes:- half of the gametes
contain X Chromosome and half of the gete contain Y Chromosome.

(1) When male gamete (containing X Chromosome) ---fertilizes the female gamete (always containing X Chromosome)----The resultant child will be XX a Female.

(2) When Male gamete containing Y chromosome fertilizes the Female gamete ( always containing X Chromosome) ---The resultant child will be XY a Male.

So it is the X Chromosome of male that will decide that the child will be a female (XX)

And it is the Y chromosome of male that will decide that the child will be a Male (XY)

So the sex of child depends on :-

whether the male gamete containing X Chromosome is fertilizing the female gamete ( always containing X Chromosome)----XX (Female Child)
or
Male gamete containing
Y chromosome is fertilizing
the female gamete ( containing only X Chromosome)---XY (Male Child).

Hope it helps.
