Sangolli Rayanna (15 August 1798 – 26 January 1831)[citation needed] was a prominent warrior from Karnataka, India. He was the army chief of the Kingdom of Kittur ruled at the time by Rani Chennamma and fought the British East India Company till his death. His life was the subject of the 2012 Kannada film Sangolli Rayanna.

Sangoli Rayanna was the army chief of the kingdom of Kittur during the rule of Rani Chennamma. He was executed by hanging to death.

• He was the army chief of the kingdom. His excellent military commands and strategies were popular. He has a brave and courageous soldier in the kingdom. He fought against the East India Company until his death.
• The Queen and Rayanna opposed the demands of the British on tribute money, eventually leading to a war between them. A big defeat for the British in the first war led to the application of foul methods in the second war leading them to victory and captured the Queen and him.
• He was released after five years but the Rani was made to believe that he is dead, which made the former consume poison. After Rayanna’s freed he did not stop fighting the British he turned guerrilla warrior which rolled down British heads.
• But all his efforts went to vain when people started deceiving him after the Queen’s death. And he was sentenced to death by hanging by the British rulers.
