By recent survey, purchasing capacity of rural population has surpassed capacity of urban population.
People living in villages do have money butthey don't spend it like city people, or they dont know where to spend. Village people spend money on functions instead of cloths and gadgets. Village people have many limited needs unlike city people so from outside view one might feel village people are poor.
As city has slums rural some rural population has poor people but not entire rural population is poor.
