who is Thanos?(long description)
Answers
Here’s everything we know about Thanos from the comics and the movies. And don’t worry — there are no spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War in this post!
Who is Thanos?
We know precious little about Thanos’ story before the events of 2012’s The Avengers. He seems to be a powerful leader of armies, elite warriors and assassins who has conquered and destroyed numerous worlds in a far-off region of space. Damion Poitier played the character in his mid-credits appearance in The Avengers, while Josh Brolin played him in all subsequent appearances. Ultimately, Thanos seeks to collect and wield the power of all six Infinity Stones, but he hasn’t been particularly good at that so far.
THANOS
Thanos is a fictional supervillain in Marvel Comics and Movies. The character was created by Jim Starlin. He has ability of Superhuman, Superstrength, speed, stamina, etc.
Information from Movies :
Thanos was first seen in movies on 2012 in Movie The Avengers (2012). In The Avengers, Thanos was seen in a cameo appearance in the middle of the end credits scene and was explaining Loki's mysterious survival. After that Thanos appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and last seen in Avengers: Endgame (2019). In Avengers Endgame Thanos was defeated by Iron Man(Tony Stark).
Thanos tried to kill half of the population of every planet in the galaxy. This set him on a path of galactic conquest, but he couldn't do it alone. Thanos needed an army to accomplish this goal, and this is how he came into power of the Chitauri, Sakaaran, and Outrider armies. Thanos spent years traveling across the galaxy to "save" other planets from Titan's fate, gaining a reputation as one of the most powerful beings in the universe.
Thanos decided to take one orphaned child from each of the planets that he decimated. These children became his, and he trained them to be useful pawns in his overall plan. To complete this part of his plan he adopted :
- Ebony Maw
- Corvus Glaive
- Cull Obsidian
- Proxima Midnight
- Gamora
- Nebula
In Avengers Infinity war, Thanos manages to successfully gather all six Infinity Stones by the end of the movie so he could "rebalance" the universe, with the snap of the Infinity Gauntlet wiping out half of all life. The Avengers failed to stop him.
In Avengers Endgame, we saw that a version of Thanos from another reality in 2014 traveled through time to fight the Avengers again, but even he was defeated by Iron Man's heroic snap.
Information from Comics :
Thanos was a Conqueror and worshipper of Death. His existence was unknown to general populace of earth but known to the people of many other civilisations throughout the galaxy. He was born on Titan (a moon of Saturn). He was first appeared in IRON MAN ⌗55 and his last appearance was in MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE ANNUAL ⌗2.
Thanos was son of A'lars and Sui-San and progenitor of the second colony of Eternals of Titan. His Brother name was Eros. Thanos was a morose child who became obsessed with the concept of death. Sui-San attempted to kill him, but she was stopped by A'lars.
He dropped nuclear devices on his home planet Titan and killed thousands of his people. After that he set his sights on the Earth. To conquer the Earth, Thanos learned of a power-object called Cosmic Cube. He brought Cosmic Cube in existence by the subversive organisation, Advance Idea Mechanics. Thanos sized the control of the reality-altering device and commanded it to give him control over the Universe. With the help of Cosmic Cube, he transformed himself into Godlike wraith and battled the Avengers. But He was defeated by Avengers and Cosmic Cube was destroyed by Avengers.
After that, Thanos helped Adam Warlock to fight a war against the Magus and his religious empire. He adopted Gamora in order to use her as his assassin and kill Adam Warlock before becoming Magus. Then, he came to know about the power of Infinity Gems. He wanted Infinity Gems to create a weapon capable of destroying a star. Warlock summons the Avengers and Captain Marvel to stop Thanos, although the plan is foiled when Thanos kills Warlock. The Titan regroups and captures the heroes, who are freed by Spider-Man and the Thing. Thanos is finally stopped by Warlock, whose spirit emerges from the Soul Gem and turns the Titan to stone. Thanos's spirit eventually reappears to accompany a dying Captain Marvel's soul into the realm of Death.
After that, Thanos collects the Infinity Gems again. He used gems to create the Infinity Gauntlet which make him omnipotent, and he was able to erase half the living things in the universe. But was again defeated by Avengers.
