islamic ruler qutb-ud-din-aibak inposed jaziya system on non-muslims first timewhich was called kharaj-o-jizya
Jizya is a kind tax levied by the Muslim rulers on certain permanent Non-Muslim residents of the Muslim territory under Islamic law. It is a reminder of their inferior status or it was for the protection of the subjects. Muslim scholars required adult, free, sane males among the non-muslim community to pay the jizya, exempting women, children, elders, handicapped, the ill, the insane, monks, hermits, slaves and non-Muslim foreigners who only temporarily reside in Muslim lands.
The Arabs, more specifically, the Umayyad general Muhammad-bin-Qasim, introduced the jizya in India in 712 A.D. when he conquered Sind.
In India, Islamic rulers Qutb-ud-din Aibak imposed jizya on non-Muslims first time which was called called kharaj-o-jizya.
Jizya was abolished by the Mughal ruler Akbar in 16th century but was re-introduced by Aurangzeb in 17th century.
