By my point of view both of them are angle in for each other.

Maggie in her part is angle in disguise for Joe Thompson as she brought back the warmth which was hidden inside Mrs Thompson and also brought back the happiness in the house.

Mr Thompson in his part is angle in disguise for the poor little girl Maggie as he gave Maggie the love and care she was looking for and Mr Thompson also gave Maggie a healthy and probably a bright future.
