Answer:

WAND (Women’s Action for Nuclear Disarmament) was founded in 1982 as Women's Action for Nuclear Disarmament by Helen Clandicott, who was a Canadian anti-nuclear activist.

The group began educating the community and politicians about the danger of the arms race and latent policy solutions, ultimately opening a second office in Washington, D.C., in 1985, and it was renamed as Women's Action for New Directions in 1991.
