The Vice President of India is the Exofficio chairman of the Rajya Sabha . He is not a member of the house , nor does he exercises his vote in the house, but in case of equal division , he is entitled to casting his vote.

Sh. Venkaiah Naidu , who is the vice president of india , is the chairman of the councilof state or rajyasabha. He was sworn in as the 13th vice president of India on August 11 , 2017.

  • Article 63 of the constitution provides for the office of the vice president of india.

Tenure -

The Ex officio chairman holds his office for a period of Five years from the date of he assumes his office . He may resign from his office before the expiary of his term. The letter pf resignation is addressed to the president of India. He holds his office , even after the expiary of his term , till new vice president takes over.

Vice president performs functions in his dual capacity -

  1. As a chairman of the Rajya sabha.
  2. Functions as a president : In case of Death of the president and seat fall vacant , vice president acts as a president of the Country.
