Well, hindi as a language finds its roots in sanskrit… It goes like this-

संस्कृत-पालि-प्राकृत-अवहट्ट-अपभ्रंश-हिंदी

As far as modern hindi is concerned, its beginning can be marked in the 19th century by Bharatendu Harishchandra which was further polished by Pandit Mahavir Prasad Dwivediwith the help of Maithilisharan Gupt and Ayodhya Singh Upadhyay 'Hariaudh'.
