Ram Shankar Katheria is the present head of national commission for scheduled castes. He is basically from Uttar Pradesh and a member of the 16th session of lower house of Parliament. It is a constitutional body which protects the scheduled castes against various exploitations, social and economic interests and also cultural interests. This commission was first found in 1978 by Bhola Paswan Shastri. It was first called as the Commission for SCs and STs, later in 1987 it became the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
