Yashpal Arya is the Cabinet Minister for State (Transport) in Uttarakhand. He is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader as well as Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly (ULA) member.
He was the former Speaker of the ULA and former INC leader. He had a dramatic rise in politics from a gram pradhan in the year 1984 to a prospective chief ministerial candidate in the year 2012.
He was a five-time MLA from Khatima Bajpur, and Muktesh wear constituencies, and also was the Congress’ Dalit face in Uttarakhand. On 16th January 2017, Arya and his son joined the BJP citing differences with Congress party leaders.
