We have a Parliamentary form of government where the President is the head of the country and Prime Minister is the head of the government.
a. The President is the Constitutional head of the country who represents the country but does not rule the country.
b. Since the President is not directly elected by the people, he remains the nominal head .
c. The Prime Minister is the most important functionary in a Parliamentary form of government , he is the leader of the majority party in the Lok Sabha which is directly elected by the people. That is why the Prime minister is the real executive head.
d. The President appoints the leader of the party that commands majority in the Lok Sabha.
