The speaker of the poem "The Evening Prayer" is the poet himself who is a Christian boy. The poet is Samuel Coleridge who talks about the prayer which a boy makes. The boy asks God to keep his father and his mother healthy and happy. He asks God to keep his brothers away from the evil and make their heart fill with love for each other. At the end of the prayer, the boy asks something for himself too. He asks God to make his heart 'innocent and grateful' so that after his death he would be able to meet God on his judgment day. The boy does not ask any worldly pleasure or material things from God. This exemplifies the boy to be a good Christian boy.
