the weeping philosopher refers to heraclitus of Ephesus who went to live alone in the mountains as he lamented the stupidity and folly of mankind . Portia compares County Palatine to him and says that since the county Palatine unusually sad in his youth, he will become the weeping philosopher when he grows old.
