Hughes was struck in the neck by abouncer from New South Wales bowler Sean Abbott. Hughes was wearing a helmet, but the ball struck an unprotected area just below his left ear.

He was not killed,instead it was an accident ...the bouncer ball was thrown by a south wales bowler..sean abott...though hughes was wearing a helmet it stuck his neck which is an unprotected area left side...he collapsed/fell down by the time he was taken to hospital he went into coma and ....
sadly he died three days before his 24th 27th...aprox birthday...was very young..the blood rushed into the brain and was declared as...vertebral artery damage..which supplies the blood to the brain....
