Alfonso de Albuquerque laid the foundation for the Portuguese in India. He replaced Almeida as a governor in the year 1509 AD. In the year 1510 AD, he captured Goa from the Sultan of Bijapur. Alfonso de Albuquerque was considered as a real founder of the Portuguese power in India.
