Chiang Kai Shek led the Republic of China and later fled to Taiwan during the post world war with the declaration martial law in May 1949. Also Mao Zedong founded the People's Republic of China.
So, the PRC which means People's Republic of China ruled China afterwards and declared Taiwan as it's part of the country too.
