The Britishers were good at killing. they wanted that there should be a war.. it was familiar for them that the people should do some violence and then they should be killed or hing to dealth by them ... they were surprised that the people were protesting silently !!! they were shocked ... actually scared... they wanted to have a violence .. but Gandhiji opposes that it was something new for them so this might be the reason for their suprise.
