Control over the executive :-
The ministers who run the government are accountable to the president . The members of parliament have the right to debate and criticise government policies and the right to question ministers about the action of the government. This is usually done in the question hour. During the Zero Hour which start immediately after the question hour the member can raise issues of public interest. If the ministers fails to satisfy the member of parliament with their answers the Lok Sabha may pass a vote of no confidence against the ministers. The government then has to resign.
Organ of Information :-
The Parliament works as an organ of Information. Members of Parliament can call for any except that which may threaten the security of the country. The Information provided by the Parliament is truthful and precise. This this information is collated not only through debate but also through the specific medium of questions to minister. Thus, the parliament is not just a law making body but also a multifunctional institution.
