Rudolf Virchow wrote “Omnis cellula e cellula” which literally translates to ‘’all cells come from other cells”. This is known as the cell theory which states that all life forms develop from existing life forms and not from inanimate or non-living objects.  

The theory states that cells or life cannot develop spontaneously from any source. It always develops from a life form that existed previously, although the process can be very slow and occur over a long period of time.
