In 1803 John Dalton proposes Dalton's atomic theory. Before him in 1649 the French philosopher Pierre Gassendi proposes an atomic theory which was based on the atomic theory of the Greek philosopher Epicurus who championed Democritus' atomic theory in c.306BC
