The cell was first discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665 using a microscope. The first cell theory is credited to the work of Theodor Schwann and Matthias Jakob Schleiden in the 1830s.
Postulates of the cell theory are:1)A cell is the structural and functional unit of life.2)Every cell is bounded by a cell membrane and in many cases a cell wall as well.3)All living organisms are composed of cell.Schleiden and Schwann proposed this theory.
